Bondi

I just realised that I didn't actually take many pictures on the day I went to Boni Beach and have no idea why because it was so beautiful! If you haven't heard of Bondi Beach then you probably haven't got the slightest clue about world geography, as this is one of the most well known beaches in the world, along with the likes of Panama Beach, Cancun or Copacabana and this website even named it Australia's best beach, ahead of Surfer's Paradise or Whitehaven beach! On the bus, it took about half an hour to get to it from central Sydney, which is pretty good! It was a bit hazy when I first got there but it cleared up and when it was sunny, it was even better! Loads of surfers were out and about trying their hand at surfing and the Surf Lifesavers were on guard in their hilarious red and yellow hats! The sand was a lot lighter compared to Manly beach, which was a bit more yellowy.
So seeing as I don't have too many pictures, I thought I'd give you a little more info on Bondi! Apparently Bondi is an aboriginal word meaning water breaking over rocks. In the early 1800s, convicts were actually forbidden to bathe in the sea at Bondi Beach because of sharks and stingrays but with the establishment of the Surf Lifesaving Movement in the late 1800s and it soon became a popular seaside destination for families, which it continued to be ever since. By the 1930s, Bondi wasn't just drawing in local visitor but people from other places in Australia and also from overseas.
Bondi Beach hosted the Beach Volleyball Tournament during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
The actually town on the beach is really cute, too with restaurants, ice cream shops and market stalls lining the streets. Hope you enjoy these few pictures...
